New beginnings & letting go

Hello There! I started a new job! YAY!

I’m continuing my passion for health & wellness and am now employed at a major elite athletic club. I am stepping out of my comfort zone in regards to teaching in a group fitness setting. I have always been a one on one type of trainer but this is new, challenging and inspiring. I have already met some wonderful people. In doing this, I realize that my employment here will open up opportunity for bigger and better things to come.

Sometimes in starting something new it can also lead to letting go of something…… this can be anything. One door opens, another door closes. I very recently had an awakening that lead me to believe that some things just aren’t meant to be forever. Some people have a hard time letting go, especially emotionally. Life sometimes isn’t fair but we make the best with present circumstances. We are responsible for our decisions, our actions, and the words that come out of our mouth reap consequences….. good or bad. With that said, I’m letting go of stuff, things, and people that do not find value in me, appreciate me or love me for me. All toxic relationships/friendships that I have been involved with past and present have never served me well. Do they ever? Boundaries are set and I’m letting go. A new beginning has a whole “new” meaning now.

“Where you movin?” I said, “Onto better things”

“Dear Lord, I thank you for the Grace of being alive this morning; I thank you for the sleep that has refreshed me; I thank you for the chance to MAKE A NEW BEGINNING.”

I have been inspired by a beautiful young women who I recently met. She is such an inspiration to me that I just had to share. When she walked into the room her smile was warm and energetic. Her soul is so pure and bright, it was electrifying. She is young, much younger than I, and she is confident in her body.. She spoke with elegance and strength at the same time. She had no signs of fear when speaking in front of a group of people, no signs of anxiety what so ever. She shared a story that was very touching, motivating and inspiring.

She was ridiculed for many years about her body. She was told that she wouldn’t be good enough, that she wouldn’t make the “cut”. Although that one person effected her in a bad way for a very long time, she eventually chose to get up and get moving. And boy did she!!  Long story short, she lost A LOT of weight and is highly successive today. She is no stick figure ( and I’m so glad she’s not), but is beautiful inside and out. When I say “beautiful” I mean BEAUTIFUL!! This young women is gorgeous and truly sincere. She represents what “love” is and if you met her you would agree. Her passion to inspire and encourage everyone she comes in contacts with is absolutely genuine.

I am newly inspired by people like her who have overcome major obstacles beyond there imagination. Her story set me on a path of self realization and has inspired me to jump with the risk of failing. Although my heart may pound out of my chest, I’ll get over it. One thing for sure is I wont get better at anything if I allow fear and anxiety to stop me from going for it. I must step out of my comfort zone, over and over and over again.

I had a wonderful experience with acupuncture today!

This acupuncturist took the time to LISTEN to me. She actually seemed “interested” in my life and what my health concerns were. I have had acupuncture a handful of times before, but this was by far the best one yet. I walked out of her office almost two hours later (consult was at least an hour ), with a mixture of calmness and a deer in head lights. LOL. I was no doubt on some sort of high yet I also felt like I was in a twilight zone. Weird.

As the hours passed I thought more about our conversation (mine and the acupuncturist ). She hit on a few major important issues in my life that I had a tough time accepting. Nothing drastic, not at all bad but the conversation definitely made me go….. Hmmm? I mean, in an annoying way. Why? Because I already knew of these things but what a difference it makes hearing it out loud from someone that does NOT know you personally. It was like a therapy session with needles. HAHA!

I have always believed in natural healing and Eastern medicine first before heading to a specialist that you have to wait 3 months to get an appointment…….. and than to have them NOT LISTEN or NOT CARE ……than prescribe you something that’s most likely not what you need. Now I’m not saying ALL Doctors are what I just described, but I am saying I’m beyond frustrated with health care here PERIOD. I also believe that Western medicine is great WHEN NEEDED. I do my best to be my own health advocate and I certainly don’t know everything, but I do know what works for me.

I’m absolutely making another appointment with her and will make another for my son also. By the way, his session with the acupuncturist was a week before mine. He walked out the same way I did. LOL ! I do believe in going consistently to notice any changes in the body. Although, I will say that just after one visit something good happened. 🙂

It’s amazing how our mind & body are so connected. The mind is such a powerful force. I believe it can heal or destroy…… physically and mentally.

*** What I’m saying is I think stress can destroy our bodies to the point of no return. We don’t need meds, we need to CHILL THE HELL OUT!

No but seriously, meditation, prayer, friends, family are all important for our well being. I think we have less and less of the above I just mentioned today than ever. Why? I have my thoughts on the “why” but that’s for another blog.

So far so good :-)

Well!!!!!  I have made it a little over a month with nearly no sugar! I say “nearly” because my fruits contain sugar but at least its the good kind of sugar. I am impressed by my success thus far to be honest and I intend to keep it going till the next Holiday (that will be my excuse to have whatever for the moment).

Oh but wait! I have allowed myself some dark chocolate to honor Valentines day of course. It’s tradition to enjoy a little chocolate on that sweet, sweet day of love ( what an excuse, but a good one). HA!

Really cutting out, or cutting back on sugar has helped me feel better. I have been experiencing with eliminating certain foods that cause a reaction to my epidermis. I also believe that certain foods cause inflammation within my body. For example, strawberries and tomatoes, although I love them, cause my face to breakout or become red. Certain foods make me very bloated, like onions for instance. I have no idea why but they do. Also I LOVE cheese but that too makes me bloated. I am testing out goat cheese…… That’s still on trial. LOL

I think the best thing I could do is cut out, or cut WAY BACK on sugar. That has no doubt made a difference. I do believe everything in moderation but right now I have been in serious need of a semi detox, if I may call it that, from sugar. That has been my main goal. As I mentioned earlier, I intend to stay on track!

Update on my mandolin playing……. well lets just say I’m still playing!! LOL. Actually, I really do enjoy it and wish I could dedicate more time to practice. I think I could be good at this. Ok, you can be good at anything if you’re dedicated. Family, kids, bf, life, blah, blah, blah….. right?! Doesn’t matter, I’m not giving up. It just may take me longer to get to where I want to be that’s all.

I am now learning “La Donna E Mobile”. The easy version… haha. That’s progress!

Happy Valentines Day!

No Sugar

A new year! I’m determined to cut out sugar and detox from all the lovely holiday deserts…….. and whatever else I indulged in.

Yes, this is hard and I only just begun January 3rd! My only vice I can’t seem to kick as of yet is my daily peanut butter and jelly sandwich ( A lot of sugar in welches jelly). I love a good PB & J. It’s what I look forward to after a workout. I will eventually have to cut that out. I’m following a gradual program where going cold turkey is not necessary nor is it possible for me at the moment. I do need some sanity in this insane program I’m currently on. When I say “program” its not a “real” program, it’s just what I like to call it. For me, sugar in my coffee is heaven. Chocolate sends me in a bliss. My mouth waters thinking about chocolate chip cookies. Haha 🙂 All I”m saying is the least I can do for now is enjoy a good PB & J. As long as I’m not physically pouring sugar over my sandwich than I’m making progress.

The first week is the hardest, than of course the weekend comes and temptation is at its finest. However, I made it through my nephews birthday party without even a bite of his birthday cake! So proud of me 🙂

I have been really into sardines and red beats lately. All I do is mix those into some of my favorite greens, add some quinoa, and I have a healthy filling meal. The challenge right now is being creative with my meals. Sometimes I can only eat so much of the same thing before I’m about to crack. I’m constantly on the hunt for new and improved recipes that don’t take forever to prepare.

Hope you all are having a wonderful New Year thus far. Enjoy what you have, take time to reflect, set goals, take action, prepare and enjoy the now!

Appreciation for the now

Sometimes I get caught up in the craziness of the holiday that I forget to just appreciate where I am at the present moment.

I don’t want another Christmas or New Year’s Eve to go by and not actually enjoy the season. This holiday I want to have a few drinks, eat a few of my favorite dishes (and deserts), while I enjoy sharing with  people that are close to me.

I can appreciate many things in my life, however the month of December tends to always be in a rush that usually I just  want it to be over with.

This time I want to be in the moment. There is so much to appreciate I cant even begin to list the many thanks I have. I have come a  L O N G  way and appreciate all the good, the bad, the ugly, and yes even the tragic. I have to find good in the “not so good” experiences. There must be a reason for everything! I think it’s called attitude. Resilience is tied in there somewhere I’m sure.

I have to look at life as if my life can’t get any better………and lets just say it does…….. I just moved into awesomeness with even MORE to appreciate. I also realize that things aren’t always as we see them to be. Example may be, someone driving a real nice car may have major health issues or extremely unhappy with there job. So I remind myself to appreciate the here and now….. with or without the things money can buy.

With that said, my life can take a turn for the “not so good”. After the shock of whatever it may be, I will find the gratitude in the loss and what is to come. After all, my Mother would say; “It can only get better”.  My peace and joy are up to me. My character is a reflection of my soul. I want it to shine with an appreciation for the here and the now.
